It is, indeed, one of the best books I have ever read and I am glad I have a hardback Book Club Edition that I intend to re-read soon. There are few characters in fiction that get into your head and stay there as does Atticus Finch. Gregory Peck fits that role.Prashant C. You have encouraged me to go looking for the movie.

Boo Radley has a large presence for a character who stays conspicuously out of sight.Bill Selneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17268006369157307593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644690488802388716.post-8374114334434788692013-02-28T19:50:44.094-06:002013-02-28T19:50:44.094-06:00Margot: Thanks for the comment. Lee finds the innocence in the young Scout and reminds us we need not be cynical in life.Bill Selneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17268006369157307593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644690488802388716.post-38783968630240102602013-02-28T16:47:20.347-06:002013-02-28T16:47:20.347-06:00Very nice review, Bill. I am glad I read it though.TracyKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08303342674824383688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644690488802388716.post-31599650659067523212013-02-28T11:11:59.316-06:002013-02-28T11:11:59.316-06:00I'm surprisd you knew nothing about the book o...I'm surprisd you knew nothing about the book or its characters. Have you never even seen the movie? Very faithful to the book, BTW. It stands at the top of one of the few "best of" lists I have made and will remain one of my all time favorite movies. I have seen the movie over a dozen times and never tire of it.

Boo Radley (someone you don't mention in your review) is one of the most original characters in American fiction. I think he has been cloned (unintentionally or otherwise) many times since by writers who have been deeply affected by this book.J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644690488802388716.post-45352402986853707162013-02-28T06:43:37.332-06:002013-02-28T06:43:37.332-06:00Bill - An excellent review of a superb book. I won't go on and on as I think your post does such a fine job of highlighting some of the things that make this book just as important today as it was when Lee wrote it. And I recommend the film too.

I'm glad especially that you brought up the skill with which Lee depicts events through Scout's eyes. It's really not easy to portray the way a child thinks, but in this case it succeeded brilliantly. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
