German efforts in early 1940 to procure heavy water from Norsk Hydro and a rebuff by Norway's government was one of the key incentives for Germany's invasion of Norway. The fact is that Heisenberg was not working on an Atomic bomb but contemporaries like Schumann Trinks and Diebner were under an entirely different project under German Army Ordnance (Heereswaffenamt).

There was a further rival SS project under Leonard Stark operating in Vienna which assumed control over all nuclear projects following the july 1944 bomb plot against Hitler. By September 1944 the SS had embarked upon obtaining Tritium for use in a project under the codename Hexenkessel.

These points are noted from OSS reports, US Naval Intelligence files (COMNAVEU) and US Army Counter-Intelligence-Commission investigations at Salzburg conducted in 1945. If you wish to argue then do so with these US Government documents, not with me. With all major physicists realizing the bomb potential of fission I wonder how long there would have been no bomb if Western scientists had not pursued a bomb during WW II.Bill Selneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17268006369157307593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644690488802388716.post-50227184899240265352012-11-30T00:58:57.029-06:002012-11-30T00:58:57.029-06:00Excellent review that underlines the most importan...Excellent review that underlines the most important point in that book
which removes the last remnants of the myth that Germans were making atomic bomb,
a lie that has been served every day to the scientists working at Los Alamos,
otherwise most of them would walk away. Government knew it, but kept to itself.
Such a wasted opportunity: if American scientists had followed Heisenberg's approach,
we would not have Hiroshima and Nagasaki.karabekirushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12007472970720410225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644690488802388716.post-62492210850105417062012-11-29T19:56:45.128-06:002012-11-29T19:56:45.128-06:00Margot: Thanks for the comment. This book adds further to my knowledge of what was taking place in Germany with regard to atomic research.Bill Selneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17268006369157307593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644690488802388716.post-61041604455561318602012-11-29T03:44:16.663-06:002012-11-29T03:44:16.663-06:00Bill - I'm so interested in the perspective of...Bill - I'm so interested in the perspective of this book The background on how and why the nuclear program was developed in the U.S. when it was has always interested me.
