High Season by Jon Loomis

27. – 540.) High Season by Jon Loomis – Former Baltimore homicide detective, Frank Coffin, is back in his hometown of Provincetown, Massachusetts adjusting to a leadership change in the police department from his corrupt cousin to an efficient administrator. The resort community has become the summer destination of choice gays and lesbians. When Pentecostal preacher, the Rev. Ronald Merkin, is found murdered on the beach wearing a bright summer dress (apparently straight men cross dressing are called “tall ships”) the media swarm Provincetown. Coffin and another officer, Lola Winters, start searching for the murderer. As the body count builds the pressure to find a solution escalates within the town administration. Coffin is an interesting guy. For some reason I felt more uncomfortable with the references to gay sexual lifestyles than I do in Anthony Bidulka’s books. It is a good mystery. Paperback. (June 26/10)
