Perfect Night by Peter Grimsdale
3. - 516.) Perfect Night by Peter Grimsdale – In 1995 Nick Roker is almost killed by an explosion of a boat in Sri Lanka on which were Greer Harmon, a beautiful British T.V. documentary host, and Rammel, a Sri Lankan arms dealer. Over 10 years later Roker, who has physically recovered but remains emotionally damaged, is being laid off as film archivist in a corporate cost cutting sweep. A judicial inquiry into the explosion of a highjacked jet is beginning and a documentary on the alleged mastermind, Malik, is being sought. Roker, frustrated over being made redundant, takes the final copy and finds the film edited to delete all images of Malik but for one ghostly frame. Malik was supposedly killed a short time after the highjack but Roker recognizes the image as Rammel very much alive years later. Having been fired Roker starts searching for the connections. His quest arouses powerful opponents. The action is swift and vicious. It is a good thriller. I was reminded of Le Carre though Grimsdale is not ready to be as grim as the master. I expect it would make an excellent Hollywood thriller. (Jan. 10/10)
